As the lion owns the savannah

Your personal space is the empty space that surrounds you. When you feel comfortable and centred you own the space and you expand your physical, mental and vocal presence in the room. In the animal world this is known as ‘territorial marking’. Think of the lion, resting with dignity and poise, while it communicates “I own the savannah”.

Conversely, when you are under pressure you contract: physically, mentally, vocally and in the way you interact with the space – just like the tiny lemur which, feeling threatened, jumps around manically, terrified it will get eaten at any moment.

Mark your territory

You can actively mark your territory. This sends a signal to your surroundings and your own brain that you ‘own’ the space. You come across as more confident, centred and calm and feel more comfortable. See how you can get started on working with your personal space in this video.
